About this event

THE CHALLENGE:

For the beginning of the winter semester 2023, we have a special challenge for you: the sustain(ATHON)!

Increasing global climate change and its devastating consequences for the environment, society and the economy pose an unprecedented challenge to humanity.

To be a part of the solution, we are calling for participants from all disciplines to come together at the sustain(ATHON) and develop innovative concepts for more sustainability and climate protection!

The sustain(ATHON) will take place on Oct. 30-31 in the innovative environment of the research campus ARENA2036, located near on the Campus Vaihingen (Pfaffenwaldring 19, 70569 Stuttgart).

The challenges our partners have chosen for you cover a variety of topics regarding sustainability and climate change in the region of Stuttgart and beyond.

You can expect exciting challenges, useful workshops, attractive prizes as well as free catering during the entire hackathon. Participate in teams, prove your ambition and gain great experiences!

You can find all further information below, including the preliminary running order. Please make sure to read all information, especially regarding the registration, carefully.

WHO CAN TAKE PART? STEAM AND BEYOND:

We welcome students and researchers from ALL disciplines of the University of Stuttgart to take part in the event. We believe that interdisciplinary teams with a variety of skills and mindsets have the greatest and most innovative ideas so we explicitly invite you to join - no matter if your background is from Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (STEAM) or beyond!

WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?

You will have a great and short-time experience in an innovative yet comfortable atmosphere and will take away important future skills. On-site, you will meet students and researchers from all disciplines and bring together many perspectives. You can learn from the coaches, and mentors, and from each other and take away the experience of solving a complex challenge within a short time period. For the physical well-being, refreshments will be there and free of charge.

Besides, you have the opportunity to win attractive prices from our partners!

On top, you will get a certificate for your participation in the challenge and as a student you can get 3 ECTS via the FÜSQ "Planspiel Hackathon" the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Science (ENI) is offering [please visit C@MPUS for details].

MENTORING & WORKSHOPS:

No matter if you are joining as a team or are looking to find a team: There will be a short Teambuilding Workshop a week before the sustain(ATHON) [date will be announced] where you can get to know your team members (better). Throughout the whole process on-site, you will have the opportunity to participate in input-sessions and small workshops on the different parts of the process, for example presentation training, that will be conducted by experienced coaches. Plus, there will be a mentor* for each of the challenges that will be available to you at any time to help and answer your questions.

FAIRNESS & AWARENESS:

To make sure that everyone feels comfortable and safe at the event, there will be an awareness concept for the sustain(ATHON). An important pre-condition to your participation is that you will behave fairly and respectfully towards others and their ideas.

On the second day of the sustain(ATHON), you will present your results in short pitches. Our jury consists of interdisciplinary experts that will judge your result based on pre-set criteria that include the whole process from concept to prototype - so even if your result is not perfect, you have the chance to win! Concepts and designs are also welcome, so you need not necessarily have programming skills.

THE ORGANIZERS:

The idea of the Hackathon is rooted in previous activities of the partners, for example the "WHAT THE HÄCK" hackathon (ARENA2036), the klima(HACKATHON) (CampUS hoch i, Informatik-Verbund Stuttgart, Green Office) and the "Startup Planspiel Hackathon FÜSQ" (Institute of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Science (ENI)) from 2022, who have now joined their forces to organize a great experience for you!

sustain(ATHON) 2023 is co-organized by the Elements4Founding project (supported by Vector Stiftung), the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Science (ENI), the Informatik-Verbund Stuttgart (IVS), the CampUS hoch i-project (supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Action), the Green Office, and ARENA2036.
